USEFUL AREA INFORMATION -TORREVIEJA

Situated in the the sunny south-east of Spain, the Costa Blanca has been regarded by many as 'Spain's best kept secret'. Costa Blanca translates to 'White Coast'.

Its' mild sunny climate, with an average daily temperature of 22°C (72°F) yearly and an average of overr 8 hours of sunshine per day makes the climate on of the most pleasant in the world.

In wintertime the average daily temperature exceeds 16°C (60°F), In the summer months this average reaches up to 30°C (86°F).

The area officially has over 340 days of sunshine each year and the World Health Organisation has described this coastal strip of land as the second healthiest in the world (Salt LAke City is Number One).

The salt lakes of Torevieja, La Mata and Santa Pola are the main reason for this remarkably dry micro-healthy climate. The concentration of salt in the beautiful lagoons of the region helps to draw moisture out of the air, this combined with very low annual rainfall results in a unique microclimate said to be particularly beneficial for those who suffer from Rheumatism, Arthritis and Asthma.

The Costa Blanca has an amazing 19 kilometers of beautiful coastline. The flat and quiet shoreline often gives way to rugged cliffs and headlands. Consequently, the coastline contains many sheltered coves of great beauty, a favourite with many a beach-goer.

In the area between Torevieja and Campoamor there are 23 triple European blue flag sandy beaches. All beaches in the area have free car parking and during the Summer are cleaned nightly.

The area boasts 8 championship golf courses. The most popular of these are Villamartin, Campoarmor and Las Ramblas. Within an hours drive are the courses of La Manga, La Marquesa, Boalba, Oliva Nova, San Juan, Alenda, Denia, San Jaime, Calpe and Javea. Most green fees range from £25 to £40 per round and are on a pay and play basis.

Spain's capital city Madrid is only 4 hours drive by motorway, Barcelona 6 hours, Malaga 5 hours, and Granada 3 hours.

For those who like to be within easy reach of cities for shopping, nightlife, transport connections, the cities of Alicante to the north, Elche to the north west, Murcia to the west and Cartegena to the south are each within 1 hours drive

The areas two airports at Alicante and Murcia's San Javia are each within 40 minutes drive.

Seafood enthusiasts will find the Coasta Blanca a delight. Most retaurants on the coast feature excellent seafood menus. The variety of excellent restaurants in the area id fantastic. Traditional Spanish, Chinese, Cantonese, Indian, French and Italian, French and Italian reataurants are all in abundance in the area.

Although golf is the most popular sport in the area, horse riding, tennis courts, bowling greens aqua parks and marinas can be found nearby. The Costa Blanca offers endless opportunities to practise water sports. From sailing to surfing, fishing to diving and power boating to canoeing this region is a paradise for water enthusiasts. The facilities of local Nautical clubs and marinas have earned them recognition for water quality by the European Unions' top enviromental agency.

Snow skiing during the winter months can be enjoyed at the Sierra Nevada Mountains some 3 1/2 hours drive away.

The special climate of the province of Alicante is responsible for the many varieties of grapes used in wine making. Fruits produced in the area include oranges, lemons, melons, pomegranates, cherries, dates and tomatoes. Other local foods farmed in the area include artichokes, broccoli, peppers, olives, almonds and walnuts.

This part of the Costa Blanca is a relatively unknown to most people outside Spain, but it is no secret to the Spanish who for years have chosen this area as their premier holiday destination, or even for their own retirement on the coast.

Torrevieja is not a UK package holiday destination - creating a safe, relaxed and slighly exclusive atmosphere.
